AuctionIM
Frequently Asked Questions
What is AuctionIM?
AuctionIM is a JavaScript based Instant Messaging web application. It's purpose is to allow those who are running online auctions to provide instant and better service to those who are browsing them.
Do I have to install AuctionIM?
No. There is no install process in order to use AuctionIM. AuctionIM runs 100% inside the browser environment.
What are AuctionIM's requirements?
A modern browser with JavaScript and Cookies enabled. We also recommend 512mb of RAM and a Pentium III class (or better) processor. Mozilla requires the Apple QuickTime plug-in for audio.
How much does this service cost?
AuctionIM is subscription based service. Your PayPal account will automatically be debited $9.99 each month while your account is active. Refunds will not be given at this time.
What auction sites can AuctionIM be used with?
Any. We are not currently restricting any sites. This means eBay, Overstock, Yahoo and countless others. You may even place it on your own website.
How do people find me on AuctionIM?
When you create your account, and log into the members area, you will see a small piece of code on the membershome page. When creating or updating your auction listing, you would place this code in the ad where you would like the AuctionIM status image to appear (view samples).
How can I submit a skin I designed?
First of all, we appreciate any and all user support we receive. We are always open to receiving new skin submissions. Simply contact us and tell us about it and where we can view it.
I'm logged into the members area but my status image shows me as offline, what gives?
Logging into AuctionIM's member area does not switch your status to online. Much like other messengers (AIM, MSN, YIM) you must be running the IM software for your status to change. In order to show users you are online, click the image labled "Launch AuctionIM" at the top of the members home page. This will launch AuctionIM's subscriber interface and will show you as online.
How do I manage multiple conversations?
The AuctionIM's subscribers interface has a "user list" in place of the users interface's ads. To switch between users, simply click on their username. Subscribers are permitted to have up to 30 active conversations at any given time (this number may change at any time).
If I'm limited to 30 conversations, how do I get rid of stragglers?
The subscriber interface comes equiped with some features to combat this. First, you can issue a warning to subscribers. This is just a generic warning message and just alerts them that their current behavior is inappropriate. You may issue a user 3 warnings. On the 3rd warning they are automatically kicked out of the conversation. Second, you are able to kick users with a single click, just select their name and click the "Kick" button. Third, if a user continues to act inappropriately or you simply wish to never allow a user to reach you again, you can perminately ban them.
